| What we do |
Burnham Upper School is a secondary modern school and were the first school in Buckinghamshire to admit pupils from 11 years through to 19.
We have no religious affiliations as a school. We are smaller than average in size with just over 700 pupils. We can enrol 130 pupils each year.
The school offers its pupils a friendly but purposeful atmosphere in which to study as well as a variety of activities to support, enrich and extend their educational experience. Attainment overall in GCSE examinations is much better than in most other secondary modern schools.
We were inspected by OFSTED in February 2001. The report states that this is a good school where pupils achieve well. It goes on to say that pupils develop positive attitudes to school and work hard. Their behaviour is good. Teaching is good. The inspectors also found that a particular strength of the school is the way in which it fosters self-esteem, encouraging pupils to believe in themselves and in their abilities to succeed. The inspectors also noted that our provision for pupils with special educational needs is very good.
Our aims as a school are simple and direct.
- To provide the best possible education to all pupils.
- To prepare them for a full life in society.
- To give them every opportunity to excel themselves.
